I’d like to personally invite each of you to the Educational Opportunity Association’s 44th Annual Conference and my hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It’s an exciting time for TRIO as we continue to grow and adapt, while remaining motivated, responsive, and engaged. TRIO is confronting many challenges, and we are facing them head-on during a time of broader nation-wide change. The world of TRIOis an exciting field in which to work, and we will continue to bring inspiring people together in forums like this, to ensure the long-term success of our programs.

I would like to give you an idea of what you can expect and what we hope to achieve during the conference. We begin with our opening speaker, James Kotecki, sharing insights on Curing Adultitis: Your Prescription for Less Stress and More Success. We then hear updates from Washington, delivered by the Council for Opportunity in Education President, Maureen Hoyler. Overall, the conference provides tracks for all levels of TRiO practitioners from novices to seasoned veterans. New this year, we are featuring innovative concurrent poster and round table sessions. As always, we look forward to one of the main highlights: honoring this year’s TRIO Achievers.

Milwaukee offers a rich history and a culture all its own. I invite you to enjoy the sights and the many dining options in the area surrounding our conference hotel. Enjoy a free ride on “The Hop,” our new street car, browse the Milwaukee Public Market, or enjoy a sampling of craft beer and cheese (this is Wisconsin after all). Our funtivity is a “Taste of Milwaukee” passport encouraging you to visit local establishments and enjoy much of what this city has to offer.

Before I close, I would like to thank each of your involvement with our conference and for bringing your expertise to our gathering. You, as organization leaders, have the vision, the knowledge, the wherewithal, and the experience to help us pave our way into the future. Throughout this conference, I ask you to stay engaged, keep us proactive, and help us shape the future of TRIO and college access. My personal respect and gratitude goes out to all of you.
