The Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) Successfully Concluded its 36th Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.
Approximately 1,500 educators, policymakers, researchers, and corporate and foundation representatives attended. CNN Commentator Ana Navarro kicked off the conference, and reporter and author Cheryl Wills closed it out. During the meeting, COE recognized five distinguished TRIO alumni as National TRIO Achievers. COE also bestowed its Lifetime Service Award upon Dmitri Stockton, former GE Asset Management CEO who recently formed Global Investor Catalyst LLC. Three college access and success professionals were honored for their career achievements with the Walter O. Mason Award, and the incoming officers of the COE Board for 2017-18 were installed.
Ana Navarro — Education Is Still the Great Equalizer
The CNN commentator gave a rousing speech and said there were silver linings in the turbulent political climate. She praised college access and success professionals for improving the life chances of young people and adults.
